Operative Success Stories

D: Aged 30, an ex-offender, ethnic minority, long-term unemployed, claiming benefits

D was part of the Early Release Scheme in England and Wales, which allows eligible prisoners serving sentences longer than five years to be released after serving 40% of their fixed-term sentence. Upon his release, D faced significant anxiety about reintegrating into the workforce. With the dedicated support of our sister company, Vocation Training, we worked closely with his probation managers to successfully adjust his curfew, ensuring he could start work. Thanks to his newly obtained traffic management qualifications, D secured employment through Vocation Recruitment Ltd and began working with our valued clients.

L: Aged over 50, an ex-offender, ethnic minority, long-term unemployed, inactive (not on benefits)

L started his traffic management training with Vocation Training in August after being unemployed for three years. He completed the four-week traffic management programme in October and passed all of his qualifications, including a TTMBC and T1/T2. L wanted to work in the industry as soon as possible. Unfortunately, L had restrictions with working hours from being on a probation curfew. Vocation Recruitment worked closely with probation and was able to assist in extending L's curfew hours. This required several weeks of wrap-around support via letters, emails and phone calls as well as providing evidence of L's training, qualification passes and the opportunity of employment. In November, L started working in traffic management via Vocation Recruitment. Once L found his feet in the industry and had gained a reputation, he was able to move into permanent employment with Sunbelt Rentals, a traffic management employer, in January the following year.

Mo: Ethnic minority, long-term unemployed, ex offender, benefit claimant

Mo started a four-week traffic management programme with Vocation Recruitment's sister company, Vocation Training, in November after being unemployed for four years. He completed in December after undertaking both the general knowledge and technical aspects of the training. Mo gained three qualifications in traffic management and wanted to work in a permanent job. Mo had both area and hours restrictions as well as a pending court case. Vocation Training worked closely with Mo and his solicitor to create a case for extending Mo's curfew hours and area restrictions. In January the following year, Mo was able to undertake a work trial in traffic management with HTM, a permanent employer. The start time was 7am but due to the excellent history and working relationship with HTM, Vocation Training were able to push Mo’s work trial start time to 7.15am to accommodate his curfew. Mo was provisionally offered a full-time permanent job with HTM following the work trial, but needed to again extend his curfew hours. Vocation Training then spent several more weeks supporting Mo to further expand his curfew times. These were changed to 5am-8pm with Mo starting permanent work at the end of February.
