Collaboration with the DWP

In May 2023 - Vocation Recruitment were asked by Amberon TM (now Core Highways) to assist in their recruitment drive in areas they found especially difficult to recruit in, with the main area being Peterborough. With a massive scheme starting, they needed trainees to assist on the schemes.

Vocation Recruitment sprang into action and started speaking to referral partners about the possibilities of using a space to run an induction and a TTMBC course.

The Job Centre Plus, Peterborough, were more than happy and willing to jump in and help us with this. Providing a meeting room to conduct the induction and the TTMBC course. Since starting this bespoke recruitment model, VR has put on 5 cohorts for Core Highways Peterborough.

Over the past 12 months, with the support of the JCP, we have managed to book 44 candidates onto the induction, with placing over 95% into work following their TTMBC course.

The newly qualified operatives worked via Vocation Recruitment at Core Highways on their schemes. Many of the operatives, starting to find their place in the traffic management world, We have had an impressive 20% being offered full time permanent work with Core Highways

Vocation currently has another 8 operatives still actively working at Core Highways and would likely be offered permanent positions in the coming weeks.

Without the help and support of the Job Centre in Peterborough, VR would have struggled to help so many candidates back into work. A massive debt of gratitude must be given to Anthony Dawson and his team who worked tirelessly to assist us in making sure we had suitable candidates on our courses.

Quote from Lewis Erskine, Director, Vocation Recruitment, about working with the JCP

“Tony and the team at Peterborough have thoroughly embraced working with Vocation Recruitment Ltd and helped get people interested in the traffic management jobs that have been brought to their district.  They have been able to refer some great people to us and have always been extremely helpful and supportive in facilitating a national client”.

Quote from Anthony Dawson, Partnership Manager, Jobcentre Plus, Peterborough

“Over the last year, Peterborough Jobcentre Plus has engaged on a number of short vocational courses with Vocation Recruitment. They are well organised and always arrive promptly for set-up, ready to receive our customers on-site. They deliver a group session that introduces the employer, in this case Core Highways.

The work is explained and they then deliver the Trainee Traffic Management Basic  Course, followed by an exam along with the required Drug and Alcohol testing. Upon completion of the course the students leave with a full bag of the required PPE that Vocation Recruitment pay for themselves.

Our customers leave the room ready to commence work, sometimes immediately, the following week!  We have found them to be quite outstanding in their approach to looking after the students and most importantly they place 90 -100% of participants in work, which is just fantastic. They are a pleasure to work with.”

Testimonials from some of the operatives on the course:

Rhys - “From the start it was great, I met a lot of great people. Enjoyed the work given to me. Great environment to be around, not a lot of pressure to do everything perfectly for the first time”.

Prudhvi - “This is the best place to start the job. I have never seen an agency like this. They have a good team. Richard is very helpful to the HR there. They will help you do the courses as well. I am happy to share this now  I am a permanent one of the company because of them I am getting good money.”

Raymond - “I worked for vocation recruitment  and i was very happy  there.Would i recommend vocation recruitment 100%.  “

Sam - “Vocation recruitment is a great agency, they have excellent communication and when there's a problem they do their best to fix it. “

Navigating the Road Ahead: A Fresh Start in Traffic Management for the United Kingdom

As the calendar flips to a new year, the field of traffic management in the United Kingdom gears up for another exciting chapter. With the constant evolution of technology and the growing importance of sustainable transportation, 2024 promises to be a pivotal year for the industry. In this blog post, we will explore the key initiatives, challenges, and innovations that will shape the way we navigate our roads in the UK this year.

  1. Embracing Smart Traffic Solutions:

One of the primary focuses for traffic management in 2024 is the integration of smart technologies to enhance efficiency and safety on the roads. The United Kingdom has been at the forefront of adopting intelligent transportation systems, and this year is no exception. Smart traffic lights, advanced traffic monitoring systems, and the use of artificial intelligence in traffic prediction are just a few examples of how technology is revolutionizing the way we manage traffic.

  1. Sustainable Transportation Initiatives:

With an increased emphasis on environmental sustainability, the UK is set to prioritize green and eco-friendly transportation solutions. The promotion of cycling infrastructure, investment in electric vehicle charging stations, and the expansion of public transportation networks are all part of a concerted effort to reduce carbon emissions and create a more sustainable future for transportation.

  1. Addressing Congestion Challenges:

Traffic congestion is an ongoing concern for both urban and rural areas in the UK. In 2024, traffic management authorities are doubling down on efforts to alleviate congestion through strategic planning and infrastructure development. Improved traffic flow, better signage, and innovative traffic management strategies will play a crucial role in making the roads more efficient and less congested.

  1. Public Awareness and Education:

An informed public is key to successful traffic management. Initiatives aimed at educating the public about the importance of responsible driving, adherence to traffic rules, and the benefits of alternative modes of transportation will be ramped up in 2024. Public awareness campaigns, school programs, and community engagement activities will all contribute to creating a safer and more responsible road environment.

  1. Collaborative Partnerships:

Traffic management is a complex web that involves coordination between various stakeholders, including government bodies, local authorities, private companies, and the public. Collaborative partnerships will be essential in addressing the multifaceted challenges of traffic management. Public-private partnerships, information sharing, and joint initiatives will pave the way for a more integrated and efficient traffic management system.

Conclusion:

As the United Kingdom sets out on a new year, the traffic management landscape is poised for positive change. The integration of smart technologies, a focus on sustainability, efforts to alleviate congestion, public awareness campaigns, and collaborative partnerships all contribute to the collective goal of creating safer, more efficient, and environmentally friendly roads. With these initiatives in place, the UK is on track to navigate the road ahead with confidence and pave the way for a future where transportation is seamlessly integrated into our daily lives.

Navigating the Festive Flow: Traffic Management in the United Kingdom During Christmas

As the holiday season descends upon the United Kingdom, the air is filled with excitement, decorations adorn the streets, and the spirit of Christmas is palpable. However, amid the festivities, one challenge that becomes more pronounced is managing the surge in traffic. With bustling shopping centres, Christmas markets, and families hitting the roads for holiday gatherings, effective traffic management becomes crucial to ensure a smooth and safe experience for everyone.

Understanding the Seasonal Surge:

Christmas brings about a unique set of challenges for traffic management. The days leading up to Christmas and the period between Christmas and New Year's witness a significant increase in traffic as people embark on last-minute shopping sprees, attend festive events, and travel to be with their loved ones. Additionally, with the possibility of adverse weather conditions, the need for efficient traffic management becomes even more critical.

Strategies Employed:

  1. Public Transport Promotion: Encouraging the use of public transportation is a key strategy to alleviate traffic congestion. Authorities often promote special holiday schedules for buses and trains, making it easier for people to leave their cars at home.
  2. Temporary Traffic Measures: Local authorities may implement temporary traffic measures such as road closures, one-way systems, and traffic diversions to manage the increased flow of vehicles in popular shopping districts and event areas.
  3. Variable Message Signs (VMS): Dynamic and real-time information through Variable Message Signs helps drivers stay informed about traffic conditions, road closures, and alternative routes. This technology assists in minimising congestion and rerouting traffic effectively.
  4. Collaboration with Retailers: Coordinated efforts with retailers involve planning special events and promotions during off-peak hours to distribute the flow of shoppers throughout the day, reducing the impact on traffic.
  5. Increased Police Presence: Boosting the presence of law enforcement on the roads helps manage traffic and ensures compliance with regulations. This can include controlling intersections, directing traffic, and addressing any emergencies promptly.
  6. Smart Traffic Management Systems: Leveraging smart technology, traffic management systems can analyse real-time data to predict congestion hotspots and optimise traffic light timings. This helps in the smooth movement of vehicles and reduces unnecessary delays.

Community Engagement:

Effective traffic management during Christmas is not just about regulations and technology; it also involves community engagement. Local residents, businesses, and drivers need to be aware of the planned measures, alternative routes, and the importance of responsible driving during this hectic period.

Conclusion:

In the midst of the festive cheer, managing the surge in traffic during Christmas is a complex but necessary task. By employing a combination of public transport promotion, temporary traffic measures, technology integration, and community engagement, the United Kingdom aims to ensure that the holiday season remains a time of joy and celebration for all, with minimal disruptions on the roads. So, as you navigate the Christmas hustle and bustle, remember that behind the scenes, dedicated efforts are being made to keep the traffic flowing smoothly, allowing everyone to enjoy the magic of the season.

Navigating the Road Ahead: A Deep Dive into Traffic Management in the United Kingdom

As the pulse of urban life quickens and cities in the United Kingdom continue to expand, the importance of effective traffic management becomes more pronounced than ever. From bustling metropolises to quaint towns, the need for smooth, safe, and efficient traffic flow is paramount. This blog post aims to explore the intricacies of traffic management in the United Kingdom, shedding light on key aspects such as challenges faced, innovative solutions, and the future of transportation.

The Urban Tapestry: A Challenge and an Opportunity:

The unique blend of historical charm and modern infrastructure in the United Kingdom poses both challenges and opportunities for traffic management. Narrow winding streets that echo centuries of history meet the demands of a contemporary society with ever-growing vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Striking the right balance requires a nuanced approach that takes into account the diverse landscape of the UK's cities and towns.

Regulation and Governance:

Traffic management in the United Kingdom is governed by a combination of local authorities and national regulations. Local councils often play a pivotal role in implementing measures tailored to their specific needs, while overarching guidelines from bodies such as the Department for Transport provide a national framework. This collaborative approach allows for flexibility in addressing local challenges while ensuring a cohesive national strategy.

Technological Innovations Driving Change:

Advancements in technology are revolutionising the field of traffic management. The integration of smart traffic signals, real-time data analytics, and predictive modelling allows for more dynamic and responsive control of traffic. The UK is increasingly embracing Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to optimise traffic flow, enhance safety, and reduce congestion. From adaptive signal control to smart parking solutions, technology is becoming a powerful ally in managing the complexities of urban traffic.

Sustainable Solutions for Tomorrow:

As the UK intensifies its focus on sustainability, traffic management is evolving to promote eco-friendly transportation options. Initiatives such as low-emission zones, cycling infrastructure improvements, and pedestrian-friendly urban planning contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally conscious approach to traffic management. The integration of electric vehicles and the development of alternative transportation modes are key components of the UK's vision for a greener future.

Challenges and Future Outlook:

Despite advancements, traffic management in the UK faces ongoing challenges. Congestion, air quality concerns, and the need for continual infrastructure development are ever-present issues. However, the future is promising with ongoing research into autonomous vehicles, mobility-as-a-service platforms, and other innovations that have the potential to reshape the landscape of transportation.

Community Engagement and Education:

An informed and engaged community is vital for the success of traffic management initiatives. Building a culture of responsible and considerate transportation behaviour is key to achieving long-term success.

Conclusion:

Traffic management in the United Kingdom is a multifaceted endeavour that requires a delicate balance between tradition and innovation. As the nation navigates the road ahead, embracing technology, sustainable practices, and community involvement will be crucial. By addressing current challenges with forward-thinking solutions, the UK can pave the way for a future where transportation is not just a means of getting from A to B but a seamless, efficient, and sustainable part of urban life.
